Be Our Guest

March 14, 2012

Remember me showing you this upstairs guest bedroom from when we first moved in? This is what it looked like when we toured the home.

Really what you’re looking at is the room that took our breath away and made us fall head over heels with the house. Threw down an offer right then and there.

(Kidding!) Actually, this room kind of creeped us out a little – it has that small child, Victorian, creepy feel.  Do you know what I mean? This is the room in the movies where the small possessed twin girls with perfectly curled pigtails sleep with their doll collection lining the perimeter of the room with their eyes wide open. Note the wallpaper in the photo below…hmmm onto something?

Sooo0 after that lovely introduction, let’s take a poll – Raise your hands..not all at once now…Who wants to stay overnight in our guest suite?!? I promise the dolls wont bother you..too much…

[SIDE NOTE] We actually did walk through an old house when we were house hunting that had a small room on the upper level made for miniature people..not “Little People Big World” style small people…and not really a “kids room” but just weird small…a miniature doorway, small old furniture, little beds, little dolls, little closets…kind of like we were in a real life doll house… I can’t quite explain it but we felt like giants in the room! Imagine Nick..size 16 shoe...(sorry nick, it’s out there now..) delicately stepping through the miniature room. Isn’t house hunting funny!

In all honesty the room is a really great guest room. It’s a large size, has big windows, a large closet, beautiful wood floors, angled walls and nice white trim… but the seizure-inducing wallpaper had. to. go.

A while back, even before we had the house, I came across this photo and fell in love with the room and knew I wanted to use it as inspiration for the bedroom.

I’m all about creating inspiration boards..not necessarily to find the exact pieces, but to get a good idea of the overall look you want to achieve. Here is the inspiration board I’ve created for our upstairs guest bedroom. These boards are constantly changing, but for now this is what I’m feelin’

1-2-3  / 4-5-6  / 7-8-9

ps – #3 is wallpaper from Urban..now that is how you do wallpaper

To keep this post short and sweet and crawling back for more ..I will leave you with a little teaser of  a few things we’ve done so far.

Now let your imaginations take over, because I’m sure what’s in your head is probably more fabulous than what’s really going on in the bedroom ..(isn’t that always the case)…think about it…..annnd got it! LOL!

And what about you? Do you create inspiration boards for anything? What about a funny house or apartment hunting experience?

Leave a comment, I would love to hear from you!

This cracked me up. Never wanted to say it, but that room freaked me out so much that when I was visiting, I was afraid to use the upstairs bathroom, in fear that one of those little dolls would lock me up…Chucky-style! JK! Can’t wait to see what you have done with the room…not fair to tease. I might take pictures (when I come over on Sunday) and leak them to the press via my blog! :) You are so creative!
